Becoming a Surveyor

Working in a public service environment, your attention to detail, clear communication, strong sense of responsibility and problem-solving skills could make you an exceptional residential surveyor. Qualify part-time through the Sava School of Surveying and you can join the community of "house detectives" inspecting people’s homes for issues and defects, and offering expert advice to homebuyers, homeowners and housing providers as they buy, sell and renovate their homes.

The Level 6 Diploma in Residential Surveying and Valuation is delivered by Sava and accredited by ABBE. This industry-recognised qualification is opening doors for career changers looking to join a rewarding and respected profession - no previous experience required.

On completion of the diploma, you will be eligible for professional memberships with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE).

Once qualified, how you work is up to you - join a surveying firm or housing provider, or set up independently.

Surveying is a profession, much like a lawyer or accountant, and your salary will reflect this.

Starting salaries vary depending on where and how you work, with many firms offering commission and bonuses; however, according to popular recruitment sites Reed and Talent.com, entry level positions start at £45,000 per year.

Within just 2 years of graduating, the average salary of a Sava School of Surveying graduate is £60,000*, with experienced and independent members of the profession reporting earnings in excess of £140,000 per year.

Callum Walker, Sava Graduate

"I knew I’d be on a good salary after qualifying. I paid for the course on finance over a few months and by the time I’d paid it off, I’d made my money back and some within the first year."

- Callum Walker, Sava School of Surveying graduate and owner of WR Surveying
